ALL THAT DAVID COPPERFIELD KIND OF CRAP

So far in Catcher in the Rye, we've learned that the main character, Holden, is getting kicked out of a very prestigious and crook-oriented school. He seems to kind of put up a front. To everything. To us the reader, that he has "been through some stuff" and to his history teacher, Mr. Spencer. He seems close to his teacher, Mr. Spencer, or at least he wants to be. Holden goes over to his house to say a last goodbye (because he's being kicked out of pencey prep) and while he's talking to his teacher, his mind is in a different place.

He is confused. He seems like a charismatic, rebel sort of teenager whom you want to learn more about. He always has his mind on something else but never speaks his mind. He wants to do things for himself and he definitely has a lot of opinions.
