Catcher in the Rye Questions

1.) Holden means that his brother D.B is a sell out and sold himself to Hollywood.
2.) Holden is at Pencey Prep by himself while everyone else is at the game.
3.) Pencey Prep is a high class academy that is on the East Coast.
4.) Holden let the fencing team down by not bringing the equipment.
5.) Holden is getting kicked out of Pencey for failing all his classes except English.
6.) Holden appears to be angst-y.

1.) Mr. Spencer is Holden's history teacher and he visits him to say goodbye.
2.) Mr. Spencer tells Holden, "good luck," and Holden says he hates that.
3.) Holden's problem with phonies.

1.) Holden means that he doesn't really understand what he's reading most of the time, like, "Out of Africa," but he still likes to read as much as he can.
2.) Ackley is Holden's neighbor kind of who is not very attractive and pretty awkward, which can get under a lot of people's skin.
3.) Ackley cuts his finger nails all over his room.

1.) Stradlater is Holden's roommate who is this "jock" kind of guy. He's very handsome and he's a secret slob because he puts this front up about being handsome but is kind of gross.
2.) This shows that Stradlater thinks English is only about punctuation and grammar when it's really about so much more.
3.) Jane and Holden have a lot of history together.

1.) Allie is Holden's younger brother and the baseball mitt is important to him because Allie used to write poems on it.
2.) Holden's parents want him to be psychoanalyzed because he took Allie's death really hard.
